pH Calibration
|
A digital pH meter needs to be calibrated before taking any measurements. The calibration procedure uses two to three buffer solutions. These buffer solutions have a known pH level. First, the electrode should be rinsed with deionized water and dried with a piece of tissue. The electrode of the pH meter is dipped into the buffer solution and the meter is calibrated to the correct level of the known pH level. Then the electrode is rinsed off again with the deionized water and dipped into a buffer of a different pH level. Calibrate the meter to the second pH level and then rinse off the electrode.
It is important to follow the instructions that come with your pH meter as not all meters are calibrated the same. Some will need to be adjusted manually and some can calibrate themselves automatically.
